Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, Brush Creek Mill hosts an annual yard sale. Items may be donated to the Mill to support the Mill’s fundraising efforts. Tables are available to rent for community members at a low cost. This is a great opportunity to clean out unwanted items and to find a special item to take home. All donations are greatly appreciated. You may drop off your donations during open hours, beginning May 1st. NO CLOTHING, PLEASE!

“Teeing Up for Kids” 15th Annual Golf Tournament (July 14)

Brush creek mill events golf tournament

Brush Creek Mill supports the youth and children of the county in a variety of ways. An annual field trip is provided for every fourth grade class in Atlanta, Hillman, and Lewiston schools. An annual Christmas party is provided for the area children at no charge, complete with a visit and photo with Santa Claus. The Brush Creek Mill also provides grants to area organizations that offer services, recreation or education to the youth and children in Montmorency County.

The annual “Teeing Up For Kids’ golf tournament is held each July at Hillman’s Thunder Bay Resort. This event provides funding for the Mill’s year-round support of local children. While the golfers have a lot of fun with the 18 hole golf scramble, the many volunteers also enjoy assisting with the event, the meal and the raffles. “Teeing Up For Kids” is a wonderful opportunity to support the county kids, while having a great time with others from near and far. Consider golfing, sponsoring or volunteering. Let us know how you would like to participate by contacting us!

VJ Day Celebration of “Hometown Heroes” (August 10)

Hillman is one of the only towns in the United States that still celebrates VJ Day with a parade down main street. VJ Day commemorates the surrender of Japan on August 14, 1945, and signaled the end of World War II. The local businesses host events throughout town the entire weekend. Brush Creek Mill continues to feature photos of our hometown veterans indoors through the month of August. The Hillman Area Historical & Genealogy Society is proud to announce the opening of the museum in the Mill. The museum is on the second floor and is open to the public when the Mill is open. Come see the history of the Hillman area.

Applefest (October 5)

The Mill celebrates the Fall season with our annual Applefest, featuring homemade apple dumplings with caramel sauce and ice cream. In addition, donuts and fresh apples will be available. Volunteers enjoy making each dumpling one at a time, and all from scratch. A “Best Apple Pie” contest will be held this year. The top 3 pies will win a cash prize! To enter, please contact the Mill in advance. There’s also a craft show during Applefest, featuring original art, custom made by local artists. It’s another wonderful opportunity to get involved in Brush Creek Mill events.

Homemade Soup Sale (November 14)

As the days get colder, soup gets more and more comforting! Stop by and pick up a quart of homemade soup. A variety of soups, as well as breads and cookies, are being made by a wonderful group of volunteers. All soup is to-go only and is sold by the quart. Pick some up for deer camp or a blustery winter day. If all of the soup isn’t sold, we’ll freeze it and you can stop by to purchase a quart to take home for another day. If you would like to volunteer to donate homemade soup, bread, or cookies, please contact the Mill. Your support is always appreciated.

Christmas Tree Display / People’s Choice Contest (November/December )

Each Christmas season the Mill is beautifully decorated by local residents, businesses and organizations in the area. Congratulations to St. Augustine Church CCW on winning the competition this year. Second place went to the Thunder Bay Quilt Guild and third to the Hillman Area Lions Club. You are invited to join the Christmas tree contest by entering a tree (artificial only) decorated in your own unique style. Guests of the Mill will vote on their favorite trees and all proceeds go toward supporting the Mill and its many events.

Children’s Christmas Party (December 7)

The Mill invites all of the children in Montmorency County to attend a Christmas party. Santa Claus visits with the children and hears about their wish list. Each child can make a craft, decorate a cookie, receive a free book, and take home their photo with Santa! It’s one of our most popular Brush Creek Mill events each year and is free for everyone. We hope you and your family join us.

Commemorative Tree Ceremony (December)

Join us at the Mill for a celebration honoring family, friends, service men and women and/or an organization. Names of those being honored will be read aloud and their commemorative bulb is hung on the Mill Christmas tree. Music of the season and Christmas treats will be offered. There is no charge for this event. If you would be interested in purchasing a commemorative bulb, please contact us to place your order. The bulbs are only $5.00 each.

Christmas Sing (December)

A night of celebration for the Christmas season singing with friends and neighbors at the Mill. The People’s Choice winning Christmas tree will be announced. Musicians that may want to participate, please contact the Mill in advance. Guests, join us to sing along or listen and enjoy.

Music at the Mill

Brush Creek Mill hosted an open mic night for many years. Due to the wide variety of music available in Hillman each week, the attendance at the Mill music night diminished. In support of the many venues with live music, the Mill is not hosting at this time. Special music events will continue. Watch this page for new information. New monthly events are in the planning stages.
